4-CYCLE COMBUSTION
Watch the video and observe the four-step cycle your engine runs on. Fold a paper into quarters, and sketch each of the four steps, label the important parts, and describe what is happening in each. Be prepared to demonstrate this on the cutaway engine. This animated diagram also does a good job showing & explaining the cycles. If you want to see something really cool, check out this slow-motion video of an engine's combustion chamber! |

BOLT TORQUE
Develop 'feel' for torquing a bolt, and check bolt torque using a torque wrench. Click the link here for information on bolt torque procedures and how to use a torque wrench. Be prepared to demonstrate to your teacher how to torque a bolt its specified value in the service manual.

GAP CHECKING - SPARK PLUGS AND OTHER LARGE CLEARANCES
Watch the video and observe how to use the wire gauge to determine the spark plug gap. Check the gap of your spark plug, and compare it to the specified value in the service manual. Adjust the gap if necessary. Be prepared to demonstrate your ability to do this. |

GAP CHECKING - VALVES, ARMATURES, AND OTHER SMALL CLEARANCES
Watch the video and observe how to use the feeler gauge to determine the valve clearances (intake and exhaust). Measure these clearances, and compare it to the specified values in the service manual. Be prepared to demonstrate your ability to do this. |
